“Opinionated Infrastructure” Vlog Series & Google+ Hangout Event with James Governor

The traditional approach to IT systems – where openness and configuration reign supreme – is quickly changing. More so, we’re looking at tighter integration into stacks. Intrigued by this shift, James Governor, an industry analyst at Redmonk, has hosted a series of Vlog posts on the subject of “opinionated infrastructure.”

James is also moderating a Google+ Hangout on Wednesday October 3rd at 1pm ET based on the overarching theme of his Vlog posts. The Hangout will be live broadcast on our expert integrated systems YouTube channel. He’ll be joined by an expert panel of IBM and Business Partner subject matter experts ready to discuss these topics and more. The panel will also field questions from customers and prospects ‘live’.  In his Vlog posts and during the Google+ Hangout next Wednesday, James wants to get people thinking about the servers they buy, why they buy them, and what are some of the dynamics they should pay attention to.

In the opinionated infrastructure Vlog series, James talks about how you can’t argue with the success of what he calls “opinionated software” a la Apple ® vs. Android’s ® approach to things (especially from a developers point of view). This shift is making its way into hardware as opinionated hardware = less configuration = simplified experience. Increasingly, vendors need to have an opinion – they need to simplify. James uses ruby on rails as an example – developers began to really like it because of the standardization and it became the dominant programming environment for web applications. Opinionated infrastructure in the form of integrated systems allow for the same type of advantages as fewer options equates to more flow, more productivity. A big differentiating value proposition between the vendor pack is their system now need to be ready out of the box.

This is where you come in! Feel free to add your point of view on opinionated infrastructure and ask James a question in the comments below. It will be answered during the Google+ Hangout event Wednesday October 3rd. In order to drive awareness and participation we need your help to build our Google+ page following.  So please follow us and add this event to your calendars.
